I love "green crafts" !

There are so many "green craft" ideas out there! I am partial to covering boxes with paper! While I was doing little cleaning I found this book of flowers I bought a few years ago. The flower images are beautiful and the paper is heavy and very glossy! I just used the last match on Friday so it was time to cover the match box!

I can't believe it is the same box. I am partial to red flowers!

Now, what am I going to put in there? The box looks like it would be a nice valentine gift. I was not thinking that when I made it, but that is the next holiday.

Keeping busy doing what I like to do.

I have been working on few projects. The first one is a patchwork covered composition notebook. It is a great way to use up all my little pieces of paper.
Keeping with the same paper, I made a few of these thank you notes.

I sat at the counter until 9 o'clock last night making things. I can not remember the last time I did that. I even put everything away and came down this morning to a clean counter! It is 9:14 AM and I already finished something new. It was really easy, it almost made itself. But, I still have to do the cleaning. Lots of little pieces of paper!

Walking in a winter wonderland!

The end result of a rather crazy winter storm. I think we ended up with about 16 inches of snow. The entire state was about shut down yesterday! Today is still cold but the sun is shining and this is what is I see from my driveway. Look closely at the roof and you can see some rather large icicles! Now, the next picture is not pretty at all. But it is keeping me busy today!

This chest sits at the end of our bed. My husband gave it to me for Christmas in 1984. It was a deep brown back then. It has since been painted white, mustard and now blue/green. The fabric is new, too. I have been putting off finishing this for awhile. It needs another coat of paint or two. Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow. Sorry for posting such a ugly picture, but it had to be done. Maybe I will finish it now that I have posted it!

Diary of a snowbound woman with and without electricity!

5:45 AM I do not trust the tree branches that hover over the roof of our bedroom. I head downstairs to sit on the couch, I feel safer there!

6:15 AM I take a few pictures of our snow covered yard. It is a winter wonderland! At that moment it was.
7:00 AM I make my first cup of coffee. I turn on the television and scan a few channels. HSN is having a fall fashion clearance. I usually don't watch HSN but today I might.
7:30 AM I turn on my computer to catch up with some blogs and get lost on the Internet for a while. I don't see anything I want on HSN. I do not need black knee high boots with gold studs, or do I?

8:00 AM I take more pictures of the pretty snow!
9:10 AM I start to transfer my pictures to my computer. I want to blog about the storm later.
9:13 AM The electricity goes off. Nothing like the quite of a house when the power goes off. I wonder where my pictures are? Are they caught in between my camera and my computer?
9:15 AM I can do without power for a while. Heck, I was born in the 20th century, before cable, before Internet and before the Patriots were winners! I can do this!
10:20 AM I have made a few phone calls, everyone else has power! I light a few candles, this could be a long day!
10:40 AM No power = no glue gun!
10:41 AM No power = no second cup of coffee. Dunkin Donuts should have a truck that makes deliveries, just like the ice cream man!
10:52 AM Alright, I can adjust to the quiet house. I can tidy my bedroom. I will not clean my closet it is dark in there!
11:00 AM I am wondering why I did not buy a loaf of bread. I thought if I was house bound I would just heat up some soup, maybe make a pizza or a grilled cheese. If I had bread, I could make a turkey sandwich with Havarti cheese. Now what? Believe it or not a major grocery store is closed today! This must be a big storm!

11:30 AM I have cleaned my bedroom, sorted through the mail (two weeks worth), lit more candles, moved the couch ( I will move it back later, I liked the way it was) and poured a glass of Diet Coke. In times of trouble I always turn to Diet Coke.
11:34 AM What is that I hear? Is that National Grid? Are they here to safe the day and fix this power situation. No, it is the "plow guy". I should not be disappointed he will plow the driveway and do a little path to the stairs. I may have to go out later to keep up, but this is a great start.
11:36 AM What is that I hear? It is the alarm coming back on, the frig is humming, the tv is back! Note to self, check HSN. And that other noise, is my daughter's happy reaction to the "sound of power". I did not mention her reaction at 9:20 AM when I informed her of our horrible situation! She is a substitute teacher and there is no school today.
11:37AM We both utter the words coffee! I am a old timer I know the power could go off as fast as it came back on. Let's hurry and make the coffee! I also fill the tub with water, we have well water which means no electricity no water. I hurry downstairs to put a load of wash in and transfer a load into the dryer. Ah, another day in paradise. If paradise is 30 degrees, snowing, windy, with a gray sky!
11:45AM I plug the glue gun in and my daughter heads out to clean off the cars. Maybe this is paradise!

Waiting on a snowstorm!

I am waiting to see how much snow we will get tonight. I guess that does not make me any different from anyone who lives on the east coast of The United States. I am prepared I bought a new pad of pretty paper and glue sticks! Isn't that how everyone prepares? I did move the shovels from the back of the house to the front porch. I will back my car into the driveway, it makes it easy to exit the day after a storm. I have quite a few new candles in case we lose power. What scent will it be? Fluer d'aspen? Island Orchard? Autumn Fruit? I will most likely bake something. I always bake in a storm. I'm thinking cake! No, scones! I'll bake something that is for sure! I may even clean that walk-in closet I have in my bedroom. Problem, I can't walk in it! That is why I always keep the door closed. There I said it! It is out in the open! I need help with organizing my stuff! Well, whatever the storm brings I am lucky that I have a roof over my head that will keep me safe and warm!

The holidays are over

If it takes well over a month to get ready for one day, how can I be expected to be back to normal in a week? I haven't even bought a Christmas sale item yet! Not an ornament, gift bag or scarf! For the most part I have been home! I need to venture out and see if there is anything left! I also need fresh air! It is also a snow free day. I hate driving in snow. I feel bad that this is all I have to offer. I do want to make a few of these cards though. I made them a few years ago and they would make nice thank you cards.

December 26, 2010

Even though I had a lot to do on Christmas Eve I had to make two of these cute paper mouse/mice ornaments. They were on my to-do list with a lot of other things. But, before I put all the paper and glue gun away I had to make them! I am so glad I did, I love them. Paper mice good, real mice not so much!

Let me just show you what has been a major part of my diet over the past two days! What was I thinking when I made these! They are my second favorite cookie! I still love the gingerbread men!

The poinsettia is still looking good!

Ruka , opening his present. I bought him a blinking red light in the shape of a bone. It clips on his collar so when he is over and goes outside at night my daughter can see him! It is so cute!

Christmas night! Some of the bags are full of presents, others are headed to the recycle bins. So much for all the beautifully wrapped gifts. All the paper, bows and name tags are headed to the curb to be collected on Monday.

I received this cute Santa wine bottle stopper a few years ago. Even though I did not have any of this wine, I think I feel the same way as Santa does. Tired, but a good tired. Okay, maybe Santa is not really tired, but I don't judge. Good thing Christmas comes but once a year!

Okay, let's get serious. I am a big Patriots fan (I love Tom Brady) and I am going to be watching football all day today! I will also be eating leftovers, cleaning, maybe seeing what is on sale (internet shopping) and sitting in front of the fireplace. As I type this it is snowing! I hope my day does not involve shoveling! No! No, shoveling for me! That is not how I plan to spend my day!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I will make time to stop by all my favorite blogs this week. I am taking a few days off and I am sure most bloggers are doing the same!
Let it snow!
