My daughter and I made a ginger bread house earlier this week. It was my first attempt at making this Christmas treat. I have always wanted to make one and I will admit, it was fun.
It was fun until when I went to move it, the side collapsed. We did not want to wait the 15 minutes for the frosting to dry. Lesson learned, next time wait for frosting to dry! It was about 11 PM when we finally finished it. We were making Christmas CD's and just having a nice night! As I usually do, I was turning off all the lights in the house when I heard a noise in the kitchen. Oh yes, total collapse. Next time, really wait the 15 minutes. I went to bed and in the morning I refrosted the walls and roof. It is still standing as I type this 24 hours later. The proof is in the picture!

Looks great! I usually do an annual Gingerbread House party with my girls. Time did not allow this year and I'm really bummed about it. Oh well....maybe we can get back into the swing of things next year.
Yep, I know all about those collapsing walls since it kept happening to us this year too. My icing was too moist. I finally made a batch that didn't take so long to dry. Did you use cookies for the roof? I like the way it looks. Very cute!
I love the house.Dani and you did a great job.Now you can add another thing to your todo list for next year.Have a great day.....Lorraine
We make one nearly every year. I must say, ours has never looked as good as yours. I did hope, now that dd is older, (10) that will change this year.
Beautiful job.
Thanks for all your nice comments.
Steviewren, the gingerbread was a Martha Stewart kit. The roof shingles are a cookie. To me they look like cookies you can get in the 100 calories packs. They taste a little like an Oreo cookie.
I love our house :o)
Dani
I love your lil house...we used to make one every year until the kids lost interest. I think I enjoyed it more than they did...LOL.
LOVE your Snowman ornaments!
Hugs,
Robin
