Happy Birthday Harry!

My daughter is a huge Harry Potter fan! Right from the beginning she was hooked on Harry. Me not so much. However, let's celebrate Harry's birthday. I made a pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting. Let's just say that the frosting is so good that I will have to skip supper tonight and maybe breakfast in the morning. The recipe is from Martha Stewart's, "Everyday Foods".

Summer Birthdays

My daughter asked me to make birthday cards for two girls who attend the art camp she is teaching at this summer. She wanted them to be a beach theme. That is what the kids are working on this week, beach projects! Great, I love the beach. Knowing how six year old girls can be, I made the cards almost identical. Just the umbrellas are different colors.

Color Comfort Zone

I am taking a giant step out of my color comfort zone. Here is a sneak peek at a little something I started working on yesterday. It is quite a departure from the colors I have been using for the past few months. I like how it is coming out, now what am I going to do with it?

Covered Coffee Can

Sunday afternoon was rather stormy in Rhode Island so I looked through a lot of magazines. I found a picture of a empty paint can that was covered with paper that an artist used to hold all her colored pencils. I had an empty coffee can so why not cover that and put my markers in it! My markers have returned and they now need a place to be other than a plastic container! I used a paper other than my favorite black and tan dotted paper. The bird is glued to a clothespin and it adds dimension to the can.

Oh yes, another bird!

I wanted to keep the creative mood going this afternoon. I went into my craft cabinet and found this notepad that I bought at Target last winter. I knew I would get around to covering it sooner or later. I like that it has a pen attached to it. I should of bought a few more.

I know you must be thinking, another bird! It is funny that I never thought of myself as a bird fan, but they are easy to cut out and so here, is yet another bird!

I like how the flowers came out. They seem to be jumping right of the cover!

My Markers Are Missing!

The papered soaps did not look all that special just sitting there on the beige shelf in the bathroom. So yesterday on my weekly trip to Jo Ann's I bought a paper mache box. I covered it in between rain storms and power outages. I wonder what I will do when Jo Ann's does not carry my favorite black paper?

After drawing the little flowers on a piece of white paper I was quite surprised when I opened the closet door to get my markers, to find that they were missing! How could that be, they have been there for years! Ah, my daughter was home this weekend and I was not. It had to be her! I have had my markers for seven years, where could they be? She brought them to a friend's house................great! They will be back in the house and safely put back in their place by Saturday. If not, well I won't even go there! I found a few highlighters to fill in the flowers, so things turned out well. I am off to get a haircut and do a little food shopping. The rain has finally stopped and I can go outside today!

Papered Soap

I have to get back into the swing of papering everything in my house. So today, while cleaning I noticed these bars of soap in the bathroom. If they do not say paper me, I am not sure what does. We have all seen the soap bars that have packaged in pretty paper at the cute boutiques. Well , my soaps are as good as any other soaps, they deserve a little papering!

I must say this is a simple paper project that can be done in minutes. I think it would make a cute hostess gift. My soaps needed a little birdie to make the project just a little more, let's say special!
I am looking forward to visiting all my favorite sights tonight. I am having blog withdrawals!!!

Mamma Mia

One more day goofing off and then back to cleaning, cooking and creating. I went to see Mamma Mia this afternoon. It was a cute movie. Sometimes you just need cute, no gun fighting, murder or car chases. The scenery was beautiful! Back to creating and full time blogging tomorrow! The few days in New Hampshire were fun. We did a little shopping, eating and relaxing . The guys were happy to golf and sit in the hot tub . It rained on Sunday but the hotel had a nice pub where we laughed a lot! They had the best chili I ever tasted, the white chocolate bread pudding was not bad either, or so I was told. Our friends like to have a good time no matter what! Next time we are Boston bound. Hopefully sometime in August.

Heading North

We are heading up to New Hampshire for a long weekend. When I say we, I mean my husband and two other couples. This is where we will be staying. It looks great on the internet. We have been to this area before but we have never stayed at this hotel. I want to take a lot of pictures to share with everyone. I am not sure when the last time I was away from my computer for a few days. This should be interesting! No blogging, no blog reading, no paper crafting. Um, maybe my computer should not stay home alone. Think of all the trouble it could get into without my supervision. I hope you all have a great weekend. See you all late Tuesday night!

Scrappy Pin

Last night was a quiet at my house. My husband plays golf every Thursday and my daughter was at a friend's watching a movie. So my creative time went way over the allotted schedule time! I have been wanting to make a fabric pin for a while now and last night was a great time to make one! It took about fifteen minutes to make from cutting out the circles to sewing on the clasp. Why I even have clasps is a mystery, but there they were in craft drawer. I like it on the jean jacket, I think I may wear it this weekend, if the weather cools off.

Blog Journal

Today I am trying to get a lot done. I have decided to do things in one hour blocks. Craft for an hour (already over by 45 minutes), clean the house and then go outside to tend to the plants and things. I have crafted so now it is on to dishes, cleaning the frig (always a favorite) and endless laundry! Here is a peak at my journal, I am having lots of fun with it. I know now that I should of used a larger journal. I have too much to put on the pages. It is a start and I think you should learn something everyday! The weather today here in Rhode Island is just perfect! I may have to use my hour time for outside right now! Have a great day everyone!

Birthday Card

I was just about to make a card for my father's birthday when I found this card that I made a few years back. I put down the scissors and glue gun, no card making today. This card is perfect for him. Now, I will have time to make a cake and not spend all morning fussing about what kind of card to make. Really, how does making a simple card possibly take an hour!

Hot Beach Day

Went to the beach with my daughter today. Brought some of my favorite things with me, still trying to finish this book so I can move onto another. Carla Neggers is a mystery writer. Most of her stories take place in New England, so I find them very interesting. It was very hot at the beach! The temperature was in the eighties and not a breeze or a cloud in the sky. I mean hot! So much for cooling down by the shore. Oh well, we still had a nice day.

Jewelry Box

I try to go to Michael's, Jo Ann's or AC Moore at least once a week. However, it usually ends up being more than one trip a week. I think I am pretty lucky to have all three within about 15 minutes from my house. Last week while going through the unfinished wood area at Michael's I found this box for about $3.oo I needed a new jewelry box, my jewelry does not require a fancy box by any means. Tonight I finished my little project. I find that the pictures I take at night are not as good as the pictures taken during the day. Note to self, take pictures early in the day!

Wonderful Weekend

I am going to enjoy my Sunday outside reading a book , maybe have an iced coffee and eat something cooked on the grill. A closeup of my pretty pink petunia, I guess she is not camera shy! Here comes the sun, gotta go!

Work in Progress

I bought this book kit a Michael's yesterday. The kit cost about $4.oo and I used my 40% coupon. I have been thinking about making a small journal using some of my favorite posts. I think it would be nice to look at them in book form. I want to even print out the comments that were made about the post. I have already covered the book in my favorite black paper! I am not sure what it will actually look like, but I am sure the bird and flower (not those exact ones) have a great chance to make the front cover!

Beige Covered Chairs

I have no reason for posting this picture, other than I like the way it looks. I had some leftover netting and I bought the Dream pin a few weeks back. I added it the table centerpiece.

I have been working on recovering my dinning room chairs for the past few days. I have two out of four chairs done and hopefully I will finish the rest by the weekend. They were covered in a dark red floral print for about three years . Beige is boring, but I think that will let me be more creative with everything else in the room.

I bought this brown fabric to make a few pillows for the red couch in the living room. Yet, another unfinished project. I wanted to see what it would look like for a tablecloth. I like it! In the picture below you can see that it is a rather small piece of fabric. It is crazy what you can do with the right camera angle. I do hope there is more of this fabric at Jo Ann's. It ties all the rooms together nicely.

This and That

This is a little piece of a wind chime that I have hanging under the pergola. Unfortunately, we live at the bottom of a hill and there is seldom enough wind to make the wind chime move. It has been in the same place for five years, I have heard it twice! But it does look pretty there.

I can not believe how much these plants have grown! The before picture was taken on May 27! Not all of my plants have been so fortunate, there have been a few failures. I will not be so cruel as to show you, the lets just say, the sad plants, but I have not given up on them yet! There is always hope.

Loving this Blue

I ignored the dishes in the sink once again this morning. I am sure they are not going to go anywhere. So I am not worried! I just love using this color on my outdoor projects. It makes the other things look a bit drab, but look what the color does to these red flowers! I have to put my paint brush down and give some attention to the laundry, that is also not going anywhere! I want a maid....maybe next year!
