The dress of the season

Last summer I wanted to buy a maxi dress. But, I had heard that if you wore it the first time around, you are too old to wear it this time. Is that true, am I too old? I 'm not thinking about anything too flashy or garish. It wouldn't have ruffles or lace trim. Just a dress I could wear when I'm at home. They look so cute with a pair of flat sandals. I have also heard that rules are meant to be broken. Sadly, I usually play by the rules. But, maybe just this one time I will abe a rule breaker!

Ready to relax

I bought these lounge chairs two years ago. They were a bargain $30.00 a piece. This year after taking them out for the summer I noticed they were a little rusty and needed a little care. I also bought three new chair pads last week for $19.00 a piece. That is a great price, I had looked around and the cheapest pads I found were $40.00 a piece. And they are reversible, too! Hopefully, I can get few more summers out of them!

This is not a pretty picture! Last week I bought green paint, that was a perfect match. I am proud of myself for buying a big tarp to keep the grass from being covered with paint. I would usually put a piece of newspaper under the legs. The plastic made my job very easy. No pulling paper from the freshly painted legs. Now, I have a few other pieces of lawn furniture that need a little tlc. However, today I am fighting a losing battle with the pollen in the air! My head is about ready to explode! Not a pretty picture either! No painting today.

Here's to the class of 2010

Today we will be going to our youngest daughter's college graduation. It wasn't that long ago she was a preschooler. Now, with diploma in hand she will be an elementary school teacher.

A little look at the younger years, she was to say the least a character, who kept us well entertained!

Blissful Hour

Not much going on today. I am enjoying a beautiful spring day. I am relaxing sitting on the deck (actaully I am sitting in a chair on the deck) with an iced coffee, reading a fashion magazine. It is rather rare that I have my household chores done, but today I do. A friend gave me this plant a few weeks ago. It is so pretty. Maybe one year I will buy only white flowers for the yard. Our house is light gray with white trim and shutters. I think I will google white gardens and see how they look. I love google!

Waiting to bloom!

Every year I plant impatience in this whiskey barrel. Not much to look at right now, but in a couple of weeks with a little water and shade this barrel will be full of white and pink flowers! I will post an after picture in a few weeks! That is a lot of pressure! They better bloom and bloom big!

Stamp On!

Last week a friend gave me a box of stamps. I mean, the box is full of stamps! I am a very lucky girl.
It also came with a book full of ideas. But, what do I make cards! Also in the box was a pretty blue ink pad. The color reminds me of the sky that I would like to wake up to every morning. Or the color of the warm water of the Caribbean. I would not mind waking up to that every morning either. Boy, I am going off on a tangent. Focus!

What I would like to say is, I must do more stamping!
The cards were easy to make. My daughter likes these two the best and I love the one with the orange background. Either way it was a nice way to spend an hour or so. I think I am slowly getting back into the wonderful world of crafting!

Bake Something New

I wanted to do more baking this year. Try new things. I started off with a bang. I was baking cookies, scones and muffins. Then not so much! I will admit I am a recipe collector. I use to buy cookbooks, now I just find recipes online and put them in my favorites. This recipehttp://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2010/05/a-tasty-recipe-grannys-chocolate-cobbler/ I found on The Pioneer Woman blog. I found her blog just after Christmas, I like it. What I liked about this recipe was that I had all the ingredients.

Let me just say I was not disappointed with Granny's Chocolate Cobbler. I made it for dessert last night. It is like eating a brownie all covered in warm melted chocolate. It sat on the counter while we were eating supper so I did warm it up a few seconds before I put the ice cream on top. There is something about the warm chocolate and cold ice cream. I am going to make this again. It was very good!

Thank you Granny, the cobbler was terrific!

How did we end up here?

I think every yard should have a flamingo in it! These two are just wondering how they ended up in Rhode Island? I think they are planning their escape. They have had it here! Flamigos and sunny, southern, warm weather states just go hand in hand. Yet, these cute yard creatures are popping all over Rhode Island.
Have a nice weekend.

Just Cards

My card supply is running low! How did that happen?

I needed a few thank you cards.

I just love this bird, it has attitude. I guess I would too, if I was walking around with a crown on my head!

This flower card is rather simple, but the colors are so bright and cheerful.
That was how I was feeling yesterday, cheerful, The weather was great, some may say a perfect spring day. Today is cloudy, gray, overcast, chilly, dismal, dreary and downright lousy! Maybe it is not that bad. We just can not seem to put a few nice days together. Spring in New England it's like a box of chocolates!

Another Saturday Night

Though I may live in the smallest state in the country, we have a lot of great restaurants! It was one of my resolutions to try new restaurants this year. Again, I was actually forced into sticking to this resolution because our favorite restaurant closed in February. It was our go to place! We could call up an hour before leaving the house and there would always be a table for us, actually we almost always ate at the bar. I know we will never find a place like it, but we are having fun (most of the time) trying new places. We are meeting friends at Siena a restaurant in Providence. It looks nice from the picture I posted. It has been there for years and if it can make it in this economy it has to be doing something right!
I am going to save room for desert! It is after all Mother's Day tomorrow!

They shall remain nameless

On my last visit to the garden shop, I found these pretty purple and peach annuals. I thought they were a bargain, $1.25 a piece. When I got them home and looked for the name of the plant, I was disappointed to see that it was no where to be found. I know they need a good amount of sunshine but I would like to know their name. I also bought six new clay pots at $1.00 a piece. If my math is correct this little arrangement cost $ 13.50.

I love this color, a very soft shade of peach. I usually buy purple, yellow and red flowers.
But, these were just too pretty not to take home. I like how they look on the white iron table.

I am thinking about painting the pots white and then distressing them a bit. But for now, I like the way they look. In other words, I do not feel like painting today.

Sneak Peek

I have found that if I post that I am working on a little something, I am forcing myself to finish that little something! What that says about me I am not sure, but it works! I am making this without a pattern, but it should not be that hard! I will repeat those words with confidence! Whenever I think something will be easy, I usually spend a lot of time ripping out seams. I hope to have this done by next week. I have a busy weekend ahead. Hopefully, this will turn out to be a yoga mat bag. We shall see.

24 Bookmarks

I just finished the project I blogged about last week. I made these bookmarks for my daughter to give to her students. I can not believe I actually finished them. I usually get bored halfway through a project. So, I am applauding while typing! Now, I can move onto something else. A sewing project perhaps.

My daughter's student teaching days will be over on Friday, but I am sure she will remember these second grade students forever. I can not imagine having to control 24 kids at once! I use to get nervous if I had to be a chaperon on a field trip.

Easy Baking

Raspberry thumbprint cookies are my favorite cookie. I did not know this until last Christmas. I was running out of time as the holiday approached, I wanted to make a few different cookies. I am always a day late and a dollar short. But that is not the reason for this post. It is that I found this quick and easy recipe on the back of the Betty Crocker sugar cookie package.

Yesterday, I wanted to make a batch of cookies for my daughter to take to school. It is her last week as a student teacher, she graduates later this month. The cookies were just as good as I remember them being in December. Could it be the white chocolate drizzled on top? I did use the apron that is underneath the package. I like that they are making a comeback. Baking can get very messy!

There are a lot of recipes that can be made with package mixes, not just what you see on the front. Three simple steps, about a hour or so and you will have a plate full of cookies!

Beautiful Sunday in Rhode Island

Two nice spring days in a row. The sun is shining and the birds are chirping! My flowers have been planted, they were all out of pansies, I had to buy petunias. But that is alright, they look just fine in the whiskey barrels. I need to buy a few more packs of petunias. I will leave that until Monday. I just plan to stay put today and do things around the house. There is always something to do here. I have to finish my little project that I blogged about last week and household chores just don't get done by themselves. But it is warm , it's Sunday and the headache I woke up with this morning is slowly going away.
